A 100-foot-long cake, live music featuring some very special musical guests, speeches, exquisite performances and the first large-scale fireworks spectacular in 18 years – all this and more will mark Santa Monica Pier’s centennial day celebrations on September 9, 2009. While a lot of things have changed in the last century in and around pier, the pier continues to stand for what it always has- a place for fun, food, frolic and more.

Schedule for the pier celebration
6:00 p.m. – 6:25p.m. Grand re-opening ceremony at the pier entrance which includes a special ribbon cutting ceremony, memories by those who have lived through each of the decades and the vision for the Santa Monica Pier in the next century.

6:45 p.m. – 8:25 p.m. Party on the pier at the pier parking deck
“100 minute Birthday Party” presents a concert featuring award-winning A Capella Group “Vybration”,”The Big Bamboo Steel Band” and the legendary “King of Surf Guitar” Dick Dale.
8:50 p.m. – 9:15 p.m. Grab a spot on the beach or at one of the pier’s restaurants to watch the grand finale – a spectacular display of fireworks.

Information Parking Information/Rates at the Pier for today

The southbound lanes on Ocean Avenue to Colorado Avenue and the left turn lanes on westbound Colorado will be closed to all traffic approximately between 5:00 PM and 7:00 PM during the re-opening ceremony at the pier sign. The city has enforced a increase in parking rates for today to manage traffic. Now the parking at the beach will cost $20 after 2:00 p.m. while the parking lots in downtown Santa Monica will cost $15 after 6:00 p.m. You can either arrive early or hop on the big blue bus if you can to avoid these parking rates. After the event, the visitors should take the I-10 eastbound. Don’t try the surface streets, they will packed with cyclist and pedestrians and you could be waiting forever.
