After the success of the first last Friday’s on the main street, the second last Friday’s event for this month definitely rings a bell of excitement.  While the weather forecast indicates a cloudy day, we still hope to see many throng the streets of ‘Main’ to attend this month’s last Friday’s on 26 February, 2010. We got heads up from some main streets folks on what special treat they are storing for the locals and visitors.

Paint Lab: Enjoy Paint, Wine & Cheese event for $25 plus canvass purchase includes paint and brushes ($10 if not painting) till 10 p.m. Sit back and relax to some live music with Santa Monica local Elliot Samuel.

Gary Gordon, Executive Director, Main Street Business Improvement Association told Voice of Santa Monica that the “Last Fridays” event plan had been hatched way back in September 2001, however the implementation took nearly 9 years due to the unfavourable political and economic climate. However after noticing the success of Abbot Kinney’s First Fridays in Venice, the MSBIA decided to take the  plunge.”We noticed Abbot Kinney’s success and saw similar potential for Santa Monica,” says Gordon.

While Gordon is happy at the feedback this news has generated among local residents and businesses, he is a bit apprehensive about the turnout numbers. “January is a not a good month and we can’t really expect thousands of folks to come out,” Gordon says adding that the unpredictable weather might also play a spoil sport. Gordon however feels that this Friday will be a good start and hopes to include several features to the event like live entertainment among others as the event grows in size and popularity.
